Welcome October!

It's hard to believe that summer is gone and fall is upon us.  I actually love the change of seasons and it prompts me to get organized for the what is around the corner.  

About a year ago I decided that I would make the first of every month a day when I accomplish a few tasks that seem to go by the wayside.  I have more pictures on my computer than I know what to do with, but they are precious to me and I have a few photo projects that depend upon me keeping them safe.  The first of every month I make a point to back up my computer to an external hard drive.  I have learned that if you do it regularly it doesn't take long at all.  If you need your back up due to a stolen or lost computer, a power outage zapping your computer or your computer just dies...you have a recent back up.  I bought an external hard drive for about a hundred dollars and I have not regretted it.  When I bought a new computer I was ready to go and transferred all my data without a worry in the world.  

Another task that I take care of is cleaning my Vitamix container by filling it half way with a 3:1 ratio of water and vinegar.  I let it sit all day, run it on high for about 40 seconds and then wash it with a soft scrub sponge and put it away.  If you do this regularly you will not have any filmy buildup that comes from greens being used in smoothies.  I am a smoothie fan and have one every day to get me going and it sticks with me for hours.  Here is one of my favorites!

Chocolate Almond Smoothie

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 scoop protein powder ( I love Plant Fusion Complete Plant Protein Vanilla Bean)
  • 1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1/2 cup ice
  • 2 dates
  • handful of greens (optional)

Blend and enjoy!
