In case of emergency

If you are like me you don't use half the functions available to you on your IPhone.  Not all of us are tech savvy or know our phone's capabilities as well as those who work at an Apple Store.  So when I discover something on my phone like the Do Not Disturb feature (October 14 post), I have to share.

Medical ID feature falls into that category.  Here you can enter important medical information that would be helpful to others in an emergency.  Allergies, medical conditions as well as emergency contact information.  All accessible to medical personnel even when your phone is locked with a passcode.

To create your Medical ID:

  • Open the Health app and tap Medical ID > Edit.
  • Enter any health information you feel would be important and store your emergency contacts here.
  • Turn on Show When Locked to make your Medical ID available when your phone is locked.  This allows people who want to help in an emergency to view important information.
  • When finished, tap Done.

To access this information from a locked screen...

  • Press the Home button
  • Tap Emergency
  • From there you can view any medical information in the phone or make an emergency call.

BONUS!!!!  Within the Medical ID page at the very bottom, you can also register on the national Donate Life registry.  Even if you have registered for organ donation when you got your drivers license, it doesn't necessarily cross state lines.
